Officials say escaped New Jersey drug convict is captured

Authorities say they captured in Philadelphia a man convicted on drug charges who escaped from the satellite campus of a southern New Jersey prison.

Department of Corrections spokesman Matt Schuman said Saturday authorities arrested Panagioti Souris in Philadelphia. Additional details about the capture were not immediately available.

Schuman says officials noticed that Souris was missing from the Ancora facility of Bayside State Prison Saturday morning.

Souris was serving a maximum sentence of five years on two heroin charges. Schuman said Souris was a minimum-custody convict.

State records show Souris entered the facility in April and would have been eligible for parole in December 2016.
