Officials ID Trenton man killed in South Jersey shooting

Officials have released the name of a Trenton man who was shot to death in a rural area of southern New Jersey.

Atlantic County prosecutors say Hamilton Township police found 25-year-old Marquis Smith when they responded to reports of shots fired Thursday night on Ocean Heights Avenue. He was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.

Few details have been released about the shooting, including a possible motive or what type of weapon was used. But prosecutors announced Saturday that their preliminary investigation indicates there’s “no immediate threat” to area residents

An autopsy on Smith was scheduled for Saturday.
