Northeast Pa. prosecutor joins pack vying for Kane’s job

A Northeast Pennsylvania prosecutor said he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for state Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s job.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said Tuesday he’ll launch his campaign early next year.

He’s been the county’s chief law enforcement officer for 24 years.

At least three other Democrats also want the nomination.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. plans to announce his candidacy Wednesday in Pittsburgh. Also running are Jack Stollsteimer, a Delaware County lawyer and former prosecutor, and Pittsburgh lawyer David Fawcett, a former Allegheny County councilman.

Kane, a Democrat, wants a second term but acknowledges she might not be eligible. The state Supreme Court suspended her law license indefinitely as she fights criminal charges she leaked secret grand jury material and lied about it.
