N.J. man says he was fired for helping in Sandy rescue

A New Jersey man says he was fired for ditching work to help rescue people trapped by the surge from Superstorm Sandy.

But Robert Campolongo’s boss says the problem is not that he pitched in, but that he did not tell him.

Campolongo is a longtime volunteer firefighter in Riverside who had started working as a driver for L&C Specialized Carriers in Delran four weeks before the storm arrived.

He tells the Burlington County Times he went to his fire station on Oct. 29 and ended up helping with storm rescues in Ocean County.
