The owners of a marketing and sales company have admitted paying thousands of dollars in cash bribes to a doctor in return for patient referrals for two of their clients.
Federal prosecutors say 62-year-old Daniel Gilman, of Ocean Grove, and 46-year-old Kenneth Robberson, of Wall, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pay kickbacks. Each man faces up to five years in prison when they are sentenced Jan. 11.
The two men were the principles of Promed Practice Consultants, which provided marketing and sales services for labs that test medical specimens.
Between March 2014 and May of this year, prosecutors say they paid a doctor for referrals to a blood testing lab and a DNA testing lab.
Prosecutors say neither company knew about the kickback scheme or were involved in it.
