New Jersey mom upset with 8th-grader’s homework assignment

A New Jersey mother is shocked about an assignment that asked her eighth-grade son to consider what he would do if he contracted herpes after drinking and having a one-night stand.

Amy Loper said her son was given the homework in his language arts class at the Powell Elementary School in the Cedarville section of Lawrence Township.

The question describes drinking and hooking up with a stranger.

While the assignment might be better suited for a sex education class, Loper said, it does not belong in language arts.

She contacted the school and said she was told it is part of the core curriculum that ties into a book students were given titled “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”

Her son did not do the assignment.
