Utility companies in New Jersey are reporting that roughly 20,500 customers are without electricity one day after a powerful winter storm packing high wind and snow battered the state.

But officials say most of them should have their power back sometime Sunday afternoon. And all service should be restored by late Sunday night.

Atlantic City Electric says about 17,000 customers are without power. The outages stretch from Barnegat Beach south to Cape May.

Jersey Central Power & Light says roughly 3,300 customers were without power, with outages concentrated along the coast from Long Branch to near Barnegat Beach.

Gov. Chris Christie had declared a state of emergency Friday night in New Jersey.
