Middle class supports taxing the rich; Republicans say no

    Listen

President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address included an appeal to boost taxes on the wealthy in order to provide tax credits to the middle class.

It’s an idea that plays well with the public, though there’s evidence that Republicans have become more negative than ever on taxes this year — and it’s not likely that the president’s SOTU speech will make much of a difference.

All in all, the sixth year in office was a downer for President Obama, even though his approval ratings at the end of 2014 began to rise significantly.
