Fitness email stirs controversy at Pa. college

A college in suburban Philadelphia has stirred controversy on social media after it sent an email to overweight students, advertising a fitness program.

Bryn Mawr College spokesman Matt Gray says the school recently sent the email offering a fitness program for students with an “elevated” body mass index.

The email drew criticism on social media from students and others who called it unethical and an invasion of privacy.

Dr. Kay Kerr, the director of the college health center, apologized to students in an email Friday.

Gray says this is the third time the program has been offered and the first time they’ve received complaints. Gray says the students’ health information came from the health center.
