Fire at assisted living center kills one

    Authorities say a fire at an assisted living facility for the disabled in suburban Philadelphia claimed the life of one person.

    Officials in Delaware County said the flames were reported at the Elwyn Institute in Media shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

    Middletown Township firefighters said more than three dozen residents were evacuated, but one was unaccounted for.

    Fire Chief Chip Lillie said the person later succumbed to injuries from the blaze. The victim’s identity has not been released. Two other people were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
