FAA probes whether 2 planes were too close

Federal Aviation Administration officials are examining whether two planes got too close for comfort at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the “loss of separation” involved an Express Jet Airlines Embraer E145 that was taking off and a United Airlines 737 that was landing on Thursday afternoon.

Express Jet Flight 4100 was headed for Memphis, Tenn., and United Flight 29 was arriving from San Francisco.

It’s not clear how close the planes were to each other.
