Excessive heat advisory as Philadelphia braces for mid-90s

Temperatures in Philadelphia are expected to hit the mid-90s, followed by thunderstorms this evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and health authorities have issued an excessive heat advisory.

Officials say excessive heat and humidity could cause illness. They’re urging people to use common sense, drink lots of water and not over-exert themselves.

They say to avoid working or playing in the sun and other hot areas.

Those most at risk include older people, those with chronic medical conditions, pregnant women, small children and anyone who works in a hot environment or engages in strenuous activity.

City Health Commissioner Dr. James Buehler says conditions aren’t expected to be extreme enough or last long enough to require starting up the city’s Heatline or other special heat response programs.
