Effort afoot to bring Night Market to Germantown
State Rep. Stephen Kinsey and Ogontz Avenue Redevelopment Corporation CEO Jack Kitchen told NewsWorks Thursday night that hosting a Night Market event in Germantown should be possible within two years.
“The next destination has to be Germantown,” he said, noting that the event would draw attention to Germantown Avenue and neighborhood offerings. “There is no reason why we can’t do this.”
The popular food festival has already been held twice in Mt. Airy; Thursday marked the first time it was held in West Oak Lane. (A full report from the Night Market coming later Friday.)
The plans
Already scheduled to meet with various Northwest Philadelphia community development corporations in August, Kinsey said launching an effort to host Night Market in Germantown will be part of that conversation.
If possible, Kinsey would like to begin putting together a team to get the street fair in Germantown by next summer.
He said he will work with OARC and Mt. Airy USA to learn more about the processes involved planning and hosting the event.
