Driver of pickup that hit Bucks home not charged in woman’s death

Authorities say a driver whose pickup truck crashed into a suburban Philadelphia home last year will not be charged in the death of an elderly woman a few hours later.

The Bucks County Courier Times  reports that 20-year-old Ronald Simmons is charged with risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, driving under the influence of marijuana and related counts.

Police said the pickup hit one corner of the Bristol Township home in December. Authorities said 93-year-old Jenny Russo, a hospice patient lying in bed near the point of impact, died a few hours later, but her death was due to natural causes.

Simmons was arraigned Monday and released on $750,000 bail. Defense attorney Jason Rubinstein described his client as a “good kid and hard worker who made a mistake.”
