Delaware teacher arrested on child porn charges

A teacher at Carrcroft Elementary School in North Wilmington was arrested for dealing in child pornography.

William Herkins, IV was arrested following an undercover investigation into the online sharing of child pornography by the Delaware Child Predator Task Force.

The investigation revealed that the 50-year-old Claymont man downloaded and shared multiple files of child pornography over an extended period of time. Detectives seized several electronic devices and other related evidence, after securing a search warrant on Tuesday.

Herkins is facing 25 counts of dealing in child pornography, but the attorney general’s office said additional charges could be filed. Herkins is behind bars on $1,250,000 secured bond.

Carrcroft Elementary is in the Brandywine School District. Public Information Officer Alexis Andrianopoulos said, “The number one priority of the Brandywine School District, or any school district, is the safety of our students and staff. We know that child pornography is terribly harmful to children and at odds with our responsibilities as educators and adults. Therefore, the Brandywine School District will not employ anyone who puts a child in harm’s way, period. We are cooperating fully with the attorney general’s office, law enforcement, and investigators in this matter.”
