Armed robbery at Christiana Mall in Delaware

Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Tuesday evening at Christiana Mall in Newark.

Officer John Day explained the incident occurred just before 7 p.m. in the parking lot near the DART bus stop.

“A 22-year-old male victim and his girlfriend had left the mall and were walking towards the bus stop at the Christiana Mall when they were approached by a suspect who displayed a handgun and demanded money,” explained Day.

The victim gave up his wallet and ran to his truck with his girlfriend. They were both unharmed.

Officer Day added that incidents at the mall don’t happen very often but police will be increasing security measures.

“It happened in at a pretty early time in a well occupied area, which makes it all the more unusual,” he said. “Whenever something like this happens, our troopers are more alert and more vigilant in the area. We have increased patrol.”

The suspect is described as a thin-built male in his early 20s. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Delaware State Police Department.
