Delaware AG Beau Biden reflects on father’s re-election

Beau Biden got the news that President Obama and his father Vice President Joe Biden were reelected from his six year old son.

It was quite the civics lesson for little Hunter Biden, son of Delaware’s Attorney General and grandson of the Vice President.  Beau Biden says he was in Chicago on election night and went to get ready for what he expected to be a long night, when he saw that Iowa had been called by the networks in favor of President Obama.  “I gave my little six-year-old son, Hunter Biden, a high-five.  He knew that I felt strongly about Iowa.”

Beau says he returned to continue getting ready, when his son came to him, “My son said, ‘We won, Daddy.’  And I said, ‘No Hunter, we won Iowa.’  I was trying to explain the Electoral College to him, which he kind of gets.”  Biden says that’s when he went to look at the television and saw that the country had been called for the Obama/Biden ticket.  “That’s how i found out… a very good feeling.”

Both Beau and Joe Biden were in Georgetown, Delaware just two days after the election for the Return Day festivities.  In addition to being a day of ending the grudges created during the campaign, the day’s festivities also serve as a launching pad for the next campaign cycle.  There were some “Beau” campaign stickers spotted in the crowd that day, but the stickers did not list which office “Beau” would be running for.

“I’ve been pretty disciplined about a couple things in my life, one of them is not trying to look to far down the track.”  Biden says any time he’s tried to plan out his life a year or two down the road, life intervenes.  He says after helping his dad and President Obama get re-elected, he’s looking to take a break from the campaign trail.  “I’m gonna spend some time not thinking about elections, and focus on being a dad and being an Attorney General.  This is a job I love, and this is a job I’m excited to, honored quite frankly, to have.”
