On Saturday morning, City Councilwoman Cindy Bass’ office hosted its first-annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway.
Holiday dinner fare was distributed to “a number of 8th District families who are in need” at Triumph Baptist Church, on W. Hunting Park Ave. in the district’s Tioga/Nicetown section.
A sizeable crowd had assembled by 9 a.m. and in the first hour, about 40 turkeys were given away. More than 100 turkeys were distributed.
“During these tough economic times, families are struggling,” Bass said. “I am proud that my office was able to provide assistance to over 100 families in the 8th District and help bring Thanksgiving dinner to those for whom it may not have been possible.”
