New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie plans to survey ongoing repairs along the Seaside Heights and Seaside Park boardwalk that were damaged by fire last year.

Friday’s walking tour will include a news conference on the rebuilding efforts.

The boardwalk had been rebuilt following Superstorm Sandy when the fire broke out on Sept. 12. Investigators determined the fire started in wiring under the boardwalk in Seaside Park that had been damaged by exposure to storm water from Sandy.

Wind-whipped flames destroyed dozens of businesses along an eight-block stretch in both towns before public works crews tore out a 25-foot section to serve as a makeshift fire break.
