Chestnut Street overpass in Philadelphia closed for repair

The Chestnut Street overpass above Interstate 95 near Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing area is closed because a crack was found in a support pier.

A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman says repairs are scheduled to begin as early as Thursday.

A crack was discovered by PennDOT bridge engineers in the support pier east of Columbus Boulevard on Wednesday night.

Chestnut Street traffic is being detoured north and south on Front Street until repairs are finished.
