Camden Police unions fight back against county takeover

Camden police are facing the stark reality of a pending county takeover. The move will potentially leave 270 officers with layoff notices by year’s end. Officers are now taking to the streets in a grassroots effort to rally support from residents on their behalf.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1 President John Williamson said that the takeover is “ill-conceived” and “has nothing to do with the safety of the people of Camden,” reports NJ.com.

The new Camden Metro Police Division that will be overseen by Camden County officials will staff 400 officers. But no more than half of the current force will be eligible to be hired.
