Barnes & Noble won’t renew Jenkintown lease

By early next year, Jenkintown will no longer have a Barnes & Noble. It’s not great news for the borough, but it’s not the usual bookstore-can’t-survive story, either.

With the lease up on the property along Old York Road, the company has decided not to renew, according to the Globe Times Chronicle. There’s a larger store nearby and Willow Grove, and it seems one will be enough.

The Jenkintown store has been a loyal tenant for about 20 years, but even a rent discount didn’t make staying open the best business decision for the bookstore. B&N will be moved out by the end of January.
