Atlantic City officer not indicted after fatal shooting

An Atlantic County grand jury has declined to bring an indictment against an Atlantic City police officer who fatally shot a man who earlier stabbed a convenience store worker.

Atlantic County Prosecutor James McClain announced the decision Thursday in a statement.

Officials say it happened on July 7 at the Cedar Market in Atlantic City shortly before 8:30 a.m. when a man entered the store with a knife, visible on surveillance footage. The man later fatally stabbed the cashier in the head and neck.

Authorities say the man with the knife approached an officer after police arrived and was fatally shot.
