20,000 birds killed in chicken house fire

Officials say some 20,000 birds were killed in a chicken house fire in Laurel, Delaware.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the blaze was reported about 5 a.m. Friday on Trap Pond Road. Firefighters from several companies battled the blaze in the 400-foot-long structure. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $75,000.

Investigators say the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in the bird feeder system.
