14-year-old shot in North Philly dies of wounds

A 14-year-old Philadelphia boy has died a day after he was shot in the head in the middle of a city street, police said.

Doctors pronounced the boy dead around 5 p.m. Tuesday — about 20 hours after the North Philadelphia shooting.

He had been hospitalized in extremely critical condition.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said an unidentified gunman opened fire around 8:40 p.m. Monday.Police say a BB gun that looked like a handgun fell out of the boy’s clothes when he arrived at the hospital.

A bullet was found near the scene, but it’s unclear if it’s connected to the shooting.

There are no witnesses, Small said, and there is no motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made. The investigation is continuing. Police are reviewing surveillance footage for potential leads.
