$1 million bail set for South Jersey man charged with slaying roommate

Bail has been raised to $1 million cash for a South Jersey man accused of gunning down his roommate. The boost came Monday afternoon as 50-year-old William Clark III of Audubon was arraigned on first-degree murder charges. His bail initially was set at $500,000.

Camden County prosecutors say the shooting occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. Police responded after a man called 911 and told the dispatcher he had shot his roommate in the head, and they found the body of 52-year-old Steven Johnston in a third-floor apartment.

Prosecutors have said Clark told police that he and Johnston were having a conversation when Clark said he became upset and shot Johnson.

It’s not clear if Clark has retained an attorney.
