"Somebody asked me a long time ago why I was doing all of this stuff, and, you know, my answer was-- how do you not do it? I'm a Homo. I watched the whole disease like everybody else, and I watched the government do nothing. Fortunately, now I think I've found a way to do it that raises money but makes people laugh instead of cry. That's good for my heart." Chumley Singer has been the creative force behind Philadelphia's Gay Bingo since 1996. In addition to coming up with a different theme every month, building a prom-like cheesy set, and devising the tackiest openings possible, Chumley hosts the game opposite Bingo Diva Carlota Ttendant. When he's not working on Gay Bingo, Chumley is Creative Director for Philadelphia's Fourth of July and New Year's celebrations, and does production for events ranging from the Thanksgiving Day Parade to PrideFest America.

"For a lot of us who were in our twenties, going to a funeral every few weeks -- for years it was like bracing yourself for the next bad news. And you realize, well, I've lost people, but I need to start living again."
