School's Out

In early 2004, four Philadelphia teens - Fred Breeze, Octavia Green, Tanesha Oglesby, and Valerie Quiller - set out with cameras to examine what they believed to be the leading cause of truancy in Philadelphia public schools: the school environment. Shot in the schools and neighborhoods of Philadelphia, "School's Out," interweaves a skit produced by the students with interview footage featuring educators, students, truancy professionals, and a school security guard. The resulting 10-minute video is an eye-opening and often humorous look at one of our cities most pressing problems. "School's Out" has aired on WHYY's digital channel and has been shown at screenings throughout the community.
