Patrick Stoner welcomes your questions about movies and the people who make them. Send your questions to pstoner@whyy.org. Here's the current question and answer:
Q: To whom should the Broadcast Film Critics Association give their first Lifetime Achievement Award?A: Let's decide together.
The BFCA was formed less than a year ago by a few film critics in Los Angeles. The initial membership numbered about 60 -- ranging from those TV critics you know to those who are known only in their own cities. We had our first awards luncheon on the day after the Golden Globes, and I got to present the award for Best Foreign Language Film to Il Postino.
Now, I have just gotten a note from our president and vice president -- Rod Lurie and Joey Berlin -- asking for my suggestion for the person whose life work in films we should honor. I replied that I thought someone like Katharine Hepburn would be appropriate.
Then, it hit me: Why not ask you? I mean, this is an interactive page, right?
So, I'm issuing an invitation to nominate the person you think the Broadcast Film Critics Association should present its first Lifetime Achievement Award to at our next awards luncheon. It can be an actor, director, producer -- anyone who has contributed enough to art of the cinema to deserve to be singled out for this honor.
Just drop me an e-mail with your suggestion. Include a short supporting paragraph -- say, about the length of a film pitch (25 words or so). I'll collect them and pass them along to the association.
