QUICK REVIEW: I loved the old Spencer Tracy-Katharine Hepburn, Rock Hudson-Doris Day romantic comedies, where the verbal sparring is as important as the actual lovemaking. We live in a time when we are visually oversaturated -- from music videos to commercials -- and we no longer value verbal wit in mass market entertainment. This film is a throwback to the old style -- quite consciously, and also quite successfully. Unlike most romantic entanglements you see in films, where the whole appeal is physical, here you have two extremely attractive people who are bored with the tongue-tied masses. The pair finally realize they are lucky to find someone who can stimulate them not only physically -- which is easy to find -- but also mentally, which keeps the physical alive long after it would normally die. I like this film.
