Cast: Matthew Perry, Salma Hayek, Jon Tenney, Jill Clayburgh, Tomas Milian, John Bennett Perry, Siobhan Fallon, Carlos GomezQuick Review:
The good news: FOOLS RUSH IN is the best film any of the FRIENDS cast has done. The bad news: That's no great feat. Still, Matthew Perry is very charming, with a nice, slightly neurotic appeal that cuts through the pretty boy look. A brief fling between Perry and the luscious newcomer Salma Hayek (you may remember her as the snake lady in FROM DUSK TIL DAWN) results in a surprise pregnancy. After some initial denial by Perry, he rapidly becomes devoted to her and tries to assimilate into her Hispanic culture, with predictable results. In fact, it's all predictable, but Perry makes the obvious bits work, like Cary Grant used to do in similar comic turns a half century ago.
Rating (on a four-star scale):
Interview with Matthew Perry.
