QUICK REVIEW: Toss The Poseidon Adventure and Cliffhanger together in a tunnel, and you have DAYLIGHT. Fortunately, we're spared the Shelley Winters character. (Here, the same needs are filled by the much less emotive Claire Bloom.) A traffic tunnel under a city river is blown up. Survivors are trapped.
Sly, who was once the head of some kind of emergency squad, is driving a taxi in disgrace when it happens, but he immediately gets back into action -- and official gear -- when his replacement is conveniently killed. What follows is Stallone trying to get a frightened, suspicious group of people out of danger. The special effects are excellent. The star is admirably restrained. All that's missing is any tension whatsover, except for the saftey of a dog -- which got spontaneous applause from the audience when he made it. It's all pleasant to watch and worth the ticket price for that, but that's as far as it goes.

Rating (on a four-star scale): TWO
