A Letter from Paul Vallas CEO, The School District of Philadelphia February 23, 2004 Dear Educators: As the Chief Executive Officer of the School District of Philadelphia, I am convinced that music education can help children learn in the classroom across different content areas. Additionally, I have noted while sitting on the Presidential Scholar's Panel that a large majority of students recommended for this honor have advanced education in music. Therefore, it is with much enthusiasm that I endorse WHYY's National Music Education Initiative. The Denyce Graves: Breaking the Rules distance learning program offers features such as downloadable lesson plans that will enhance the teaching of our core curriculum. In addition to a wealth of online teaching materials, resourceful web links, and suggested readings, you will find information on how you can request a VHS or DVD of WHYY's PBS production. It serves as an educational complement to this website.
