Since its founding more than 40 years ago, WHYY's purpose is to serve
the community through telecommunications by contributing to the quality
of life through education, information, entertainment and inspiration.
In addition to broadcasting great television and radio programs, some
of WHYY's educational projects include:
- Ready to Learn is a service
that ties together hundreds of day-care centers for preschool children
and aims at preparing them for school.
- LibertyNet is a noncommercial,
community computer network for non-profit use. WHYY is a founding partner
and provides the technical headquarters and hosts community workshops about
the Internet.
- Mathline
is a service that ties middle-school teachers together across the state
of Delaware, allowing for in-service training, shared experiences and new
teaching techniques.
- The Edison/Fareira Project
ties together students from this Philadelphia high school with students
from the University of Pennsylvania, Germantown Friends School and WHYY,
in publishing projects on the Internet.
- NEW - The
WHYY Home College Service will begin this fall when WHYY-TV
launches 24 hour a day broadcast operations on September 16, 1996. Eleven
leading colleges located throughout the Philadelphia Region now offer Distance
Learning Telecourses. For credit courses can now be achieved from the convenience
of your home at a time that you control. Enrollment is open now !
- The Delaware Valley
Distance Learning Consortium is an alliance of more than 40 colleges
and universities in the tri-state region, organized by WHYY and dedicated
to reaching more students, of all ages and circumstances, more efficiently.
