One small year for a Mars rover…

Listen

The Mars Rover Curiosity has spent now one Martian year on Mars (which equals two Earth years), traveled 5.5 miles and taken over 178,000 pictures – available online! Here’s your chance to name a crater on Mars – for a donation to advance astronomy research! Uwingu’s mission is to create new ways for people to personally connect with space exploration and astronomy! Fully half of their revenues go to Uwingu Fund grants to space research, education, and exploration. Research projects range from PhD student travel grants to funding the Allen Radio Telescope Array that searches for signals if intelligent life. Not the IAU database but anyone who uses Uwingu’s maps will see your named feature. Look for Saturn, Mars and the Moon together on Sunday evening Aug. 31. You can see the moon approach the two out of sunset on Aug. 28, 29 and 30; then pass by Sept. 1.
