Faster than a speeding bullet!

Listen 00:08:14

It turns out those lazy dog days of summer aren’t so lazy after all! Dave Heller and Dr. Derrick Pitts discuss the rotations and revolutions of our stars and planets while being whirled through space at a brisk 860 mph.

a. Earth’s Rotation or Daily motion – 1,000mph at the equator
b. Earth’s Revolution or Annual motion – 600 million miles around the sun at 66,000 mph
c. The Solar System’s Motion – 43,000 mph towards Vega
d. Milky Way Rotation – 230 years for one rotation at 515,000 mph
e. Milky Way Motion – 1.3 million miles per hour towards a large concentration of matter called the great Attractor in the direction Leo and Virgo.

Plus: Got some extra vacation days to use up? Get out to South-central Africa or Madagascar Thursday, September 1st for an Annular Solar Eclipse.
The Moon is not close enough to Earth to appear to completely cover the moon, so a ring of sun will encircle the moon; thus, annular.
