Author Anna Badkhen on living among the nomads of the African savannah

September 1, 2015

Guest: Anna Badkhen

ANNA BADKHEN lived as a nomad for a year, embedded among the Fulani of Mali – the largest nomadic tribe in the world. She accompanied them on their annual migration across the Sahara herding cattle, selling milk and celebrating the lifecycles of wedding and births and mourning deaths. Along the way she learned about the Fulani’s first-hand knowledge of climate change, global war on terror, and the rapid urbanization that threatens the future of their tribe. Badkhen joins Marty in the studio to talk about her new book Walking with Abel: Journeys with the Nomads of the African Savannah.
