Bill T. Jones’ “STORY/TIME: The Life of an Idea”

Listen

Guest: Bill T. Jones

[From the Radio Times archives] In a career that has spanned more than 40 years and multiple art forms – dance, spoken word, and choreography – BILL T. JONES has never shied away from controversial topics. His work has dealt with issues of race, religion, and loss in the midst of the AIDS epidemic. Raised in a large family in upstate New York, Jones first discovered dance while studying at SUNY Binghamton where he came into contact with the artistic philosophy of composer John Cage. Jones’ new book, STORY/TIME: The Life of an Idea, draws inspiration from one of Cage’s own works, Indeterminacy. The book’s stories span Jones’ career as a dancer and are interwoven with personal musings on the roles of artist and audience. In this hour of Radio Times, we’ll hear from Jones about his new book and his artistic career. Marty spoke with him last fall.
