The rise of domestic drones
August 25, 2014
Guests: Gregory McNeal, Jay Stanley, Lavon Phillips
Pizza delivery, crop dusting, moviemaking, policing – all kinds of industries have ideas for how they can use drones – the unmanned aerial vehicles that are rapidly gaining popularity in the United States. Just last month Amazon asked the Federal Aviation Administration for permission to start testing their drone delivery system outdoors. But so far though, the Federal Aviation Administration hasn’t made any definitive rules about the commercial use of drones. Today Marty talks with JAY STANLEY, Senior Policy Analyst with the ACLU’s Speech, Privacy and Technology Project and GREGORY MCNEAL, Law Professor at Pepperdine University School of Law about the privacy and security issues of drone use in the U.S. And, we’ll hear from LAVON PHILLIPS, founder of the Rotor-E Drone Club, about the rise of drone hobbyists.
