Clay Risen on the Civil Rights Act of 1964
July 4, 2014
Guest: Clay Risen
[From the Radio Times Archive] This year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the landmark Civil Rights Act. In his new book, The Bill of the Century, journalist CLAY RISEN tells the dramatic story of the negotiations, compromises, and activism that enabled the bill to become law. He brings to life the full cast of characters – politicians, lobbyists, businessmen, religious leaders, etc. – who waged the difficult battle to end discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Risen is an editor at the New York Times op-ed section. Marty sat down with him this April to discuss his new book.
