Do you have a landline telephone?  More and more people are cutting the cord and opting instead for just a cell phone.  Meanwhile, telecommunication companies are moving away from the old copper lines, replacing them with internet-based systems.   But are these better than traditional hardlines?  Today, the rise and fall of the landline phone.  We’ll talk about the new phone systems and look back on how the telephone influenced the 20th century and how cell phones are the shaping the 21st.   Marty’s guests are BRIAN FUNG, technology reporter at the Washington Post, CLAUDE FISCHER, Professor of Sociology at University of California Berkeley, and KEITH HAMPTON, Associate Professor of Communication at Rutgers University.
