Diving shipwrecks and underwater sculpture parks
May 13, 2014
Guests: Tina Held, Dan Lieb, Jason deCaires Taylor
Resting on the ocean floor, scattered along New Jersey’s coastline, lie about 2400 known shipwrecks. Once called the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” the mid-Atlantic coast makes great exploring for scuba divers and deep sea archeologists. Guest host Mary Cummings Jordan talks about shipwreck diving with DAN LIEB, President of the New Jersey Historical Divers Association and TINA HELD, instructor of marine studies at the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science. Then, a conversation with artist JASON DECAIRES TAYLOR who creates under-ocean sculpture parks in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. These underwater installations are not only remarkable works of art but may help preserve nearby coral reefs.
