The farm bill; then weather forecasts, hype and rumors

Listen

Guests: Alan Bjerga and Eric Horst

After a two year battle in Congress, last Friday President Obama signed into law a $1 trillion farm bill. It’s a complicated piece of legislation that combines into one big package, food stamp benefits for the poor and agricultural subsidies for large industrial farmers – making it rife for political wrangling and lots of lobbying. We’ll spend the first part of the hour talking about the farm bill – its details, its road to its passage and its history – with ALAN BJERGA of Bloomberg News. Then, with the possibility of snow, sleet and ice heading our way once again, we’ll turn to Millersville University’s ERIC HORST to explain how differing computer models, hype and rumors have been complicating weather forecasting in recent weeks. Horst is director of the University’s Weather Information Center.
