Winter Olympics 2014 Preview

Listen

Guests: Sean Gregory, Tom Goldman, and Stephen Wilson

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, officially open on Friday. Amidst controversies and fears surrounding security and discrimination against gays are the stories of dedicated athletes (and their families) who have devoted their lives to training for the games. In this hour of Radio Times, we’re looking ahead to the 2014 Olympics. We’ll start off with SEAN GREGORY, a senior writer who covers sports for TIME Magazine, who will talk about the steps Russia is taking to make Sochi safe in the face of terrorist threats. Then, NPR’s TOM GOLDMAN joins us to talk about the athletes to watch, the most interesting events, and who might surprise us at the 22nd Winter Olympic Games. We’ll round out the hour with STEPHEN WILSON, European sports editor for the Associated Press, who’s on the ground in Sochi.
