In his fifth State of the Union address last night, President Obama focused on income inequality by outlining efforts to strengthen the economy and expand opportunities for employment and education. In order to narrow the earnings gap between the middle class and the wealthiest Americans, he made the case for increasing efforts to expand hiring particularly for the long-term unemployed, rebuilding infrastructure, and providing better access to higher education and job training programs. He also asserted his intentions to use his authority as President should Congress fail to act on his proposals. All this comes in the wake of the previous year when many of his initiatives were not implemented. This morning on Radio Times will get response to the President’s address from a political and economic perspective.
