Sexual Assault on College Campuses

Listen

Guests: Laura Dunn, Kathleen Bogle, and Anne Coughlin

The White House released a report last week on the epidemic of sexual assault on college campuses. Obama announced a task force to help colleges and universities prevent and respond to rape and assault on campuses. The report highlighted the fact that 1 in 5 female students has been sexually assaulted while at college but only 1 in 8 report it. We start this hour discussing the new report, the prevalence of sexual violence on campuses, and how schools respond to it. Marty talks with LAURA DUNN, a sexual assault survivor and activist and founder of SurvJustice. Then, studies show that more than 80% of sexual assaults involve alcohol. We look at the culture drinking on college campuses and how to keep women safe. Should women be advised not to drink to protect themselves or does that become victim blaming? Our guests are KATHLEEN BOGLE, Associate Professor of Sociology and Criminology at LaSalle University, and ANNE COUGHLIN, Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law.
