GUEST: DONALD FAGEN

One half of the jazz-rock group, Steely Dan, comes in to discuss his music career. Our guest, Grammy Award-winning DONALD FAGEN, started out in the 60s with his songwriting partner, Walter Becker, and in four decades the two have meticulously produced nine studio albums. Since 1982’s platinum-selling “The Nightfly,” Fagen released three more solo albums including 2012’s “Sunken Condos.” His songs have catchy lyrical hooks, sophisticated compositions and erudite, but often inexplicable lyrics. Since the 2000s Steely Dan regularly tours with some of the best session players in the business after a 17-year, live band hiatus. The band just come off their Mood Swings 2013 Tour. Fagen’s written a book about his early desire to get out of the New Jersey suburbs to pursue his love for jazz, some of his adventures in the music business and life on the road called “Eminent Hipsters.”
