Marine veteran Dan Sheehan about before and life “After Action”

Third generation flyer DAN SHEEHAN served 12 years of active duty in the Marines and completed two combat tours in Iraq. When he was stationed on aircraft carriers in the Pacific and Middle East, his special ops unit was one of the first to respond to the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen. Sheehan was a pilot of an AH-W Super Cobra – a two-seat helicopter that carried an arsenal of guided missiles, unguided rockets and a 20mm cannon – and usually flew low to the ground in dust storms and enemy fire. A recipient of the Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon, Sheehan came home to the States ‘without a scratch,” but after a few years, his soldier brother was injured in Afghanistan, he started writing down his memories to cope with the inexplicable unease he had been feeling. This turned into a book, “After Action: A True Story of a Cobra Pilot’s Journey.” Sheehan hopes his memoir will help other veterans struggling with the burdens of combat.
