A conversation with Geisinger Health System CEO Glenn Steele

Listen

Guest: Glenn Steele, MD

The Geisinger Health System is widely cited by politicians, policy makers and health researchers as an outstanding example of a fully integrated health delivery model that provides better care while saving money. The System serves 2.5 million people of diverse ages, ethnicity and socioeconomic backgrounds who live in central and northeastern Pennsylvania. Among the innovations instituted at Geisinger over the years are a flat fee for certain surgeries and procedures including follow-up care, a physician-led and team-delivered approach to providing that care and a sophisticated electronic health record system helps coordinate care through its six hospital campuses and a 43-county network of primary care clinics. Glenn Steele, MD, has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Geisinger Health System since 2001. We’ve invited him to Radio Times to talk about Geisinger, what sets it apart and why it is a model of excellence in the delivery of health care.
