A conversation with Philadelphia public school teachers

August 15, 2013

The ongoing battle to remedy the Philadelphia public school funding crisis took on a new twist earlier this week when Governor Corbett tied $45 million in state funds to the terms of a new teachers’ contract. The Governor is demanding that the teachers’ union make major concessions around finances and academic reforms in their new contract which expires on August 31. Superintendent William Hite has warned that unless the District comes up with $304 million, schools may not open for business as usual in September. This morning, Marty talks with three Philadelphia public school teachers about the current state of affairs in Philadelphia schools and the challenges and rewards oftheir work in the classroom. Our guests are JOHN COATS, SUSAN LEE and HILLARY LINARDOPOULOS.
